Let's go inside some of the industry's greatest closets off the runway and off camera.  Everything on this site is handpainted by the author. Follow me on Instagram @theclosetinterview and @annthaden.

Today I’m meeting Malaku in Los Angeles.   Malaku is an amazing stylist and film producer (Ciara, Nas and Tyga are just some of the people he’s worked with) and he has all the qualities you want in a great friend- he listens and also tells it like it is.  Look no further than Malaku’s upstanding role on Bravo’s Invite Only Cabo where it’s abundantly clear this is the guy you want to be friends with and share closets with! Follow Malaku @iammalaku and make sure to catch up on all your episodes of Invite Only Cabo because if you're not  at the beach this is the next best escape!

Hello, It’s Ann.  It’s great to see you.  Can I interview your closet?  Sure.

What’s your favorite coat or jacket? Where and why did you buy it? In LA, we don’t wear too many coats or jackets…but if I had to pick a favorite, it’d have to be this vintage leather biker jacket.  I bought it at American Rag and I bought it because I loved it….it just fit perfectly and it was worn right.

Are you a morning or night person? What do you wear early in the morning or late at night? I am definitely a night person. I prefer night because there’s just something about the night air and the energy/freedom of people at night…completely different than day.  Early in the morning, I usually wear Ralph Lauren sweats and late at night I’m usually in a button-up shirt and a pair of jeans.

What did you wear the last time you went out to dinner? I wore a pair of Fear of God jeans, a short-sleeved/multi-patterned button-up shirt, and a pair of grey suede chelsea boots.

Where did you go and what did you order?  I went to Katana in Hollywood with a group of friends and ordered a few different sushi rolls.

What is your favorite beverage of choice? An Old Fashioned cocktail.

What music do you like to dance to? 80’s music and trap music. I really love the base and drum patterns of these two genres.

Where was the last place you traveled to? Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.

What souvenirs did you buy? I purchased a poncho, a Mexican blanket, and a brown leather baseball cap.

Who in your family member has great style and how would you describe them? I used to dress my mother so I don’t know.  Hmmmm….to be honest, I’m probably the only one in my family who has a sense of fashion.

What is something one of your friends has in their closet that you want to borrow and never return?  Gichi has this exclusive leather vest that is so dope! It’s a John Varvatos, Gene Simmons Collection…they only made about five of them. He would definitely never see that vest again!

Who would star as you in a movie about your life and most importantly, what would they wear? The younger version of Omar Epps….during his “Juice” days. He would wear a pair of blue straight leg Levi jeans, a plain white t-shirt, my vintage leather jacket, a red fedora hat, and a pair of black Dr. Martens boots.

Fill in the blanks regarding your closet!

I should throw away this black Donna Karan mohair sweater but I could never part with my black vintage leather jacket.

I spent too much money on a pair of all black Bally boots once but saved a lot of money on this brown quarter length mink fur coat…only paid $1 for it.
I would love to attend Milan Fashion Week and sit in the front row of this show Tourne de Transmission, Chalayan, and Alex Mullins.

I wear this fragrance Angel by Thierry Mugler but I love smelling this fragrance on someone else Bleu De Chanel.

Thanks for letting me interview your closet, Malaku.  I’m glad I got to know you better too.  Now would you mind if I borrowed your red fedora?
