Hello, It’s Ann. It’s great to see you. Can I interview your closet? Count me in!
Madrid is one of my favorite cities to visit in terms of art and style. Where are some of your favorite places to go in the city for inspiration? I love the not so crowded art places as Lazaro Galdiano Museum, Cerralbo Museum, Fernán Nuñez Palace and of course the Royal Chapel of St. Anthony of La Florida where you will find Goya's Frescos (not a lot of people are aware of them). Walking from the river and around the lake at Casa de Campo is fantastic during autumn/spring sunsets.
In the summer there are a lot of outdoor gigs near my place below the oldest bridge in the city (Segovia bridge). There are a lot of things going on culturally, Plenty of art around the city. We have the Prado, Reina Sofia, La Casa Encendida, galleries like Travesia 4, Heinrich Ehrhardt, Juana de Aizpuru.
Also Madrid has a lot of things going on musically. You can see the classics at the Royal Theatre (where I recently saw the UK Royal Ballet's Swan Lake) or La Zarzuela. You can always see punk -rock bands like Adolescents or Southern Culture on the Skids at wonderful venues and joints like Sala El Sol and Wurlizter. Also pretty good electronic music clubs like Specka. I'm not so much a fan of big venues but if I want to see Cat Power or Florence and the Machine I have to go those massive buildings in the outskirts of the city.
What are some of the most exciting street style trends you’ve noticed in Madrid? It's been great how cultures & races are mixing up lately in the streets of Madrid, especially in Lavapiés. I love seeing how African, South American and Castizo Madrid style merge into something new.
Recently you took a trip to Tennessee. What did you enjoy most about your visit? Did you pick up some style inspiration there? It's funny that I took so much inspiration form the souvenir stores. I love how Americans take a lot of care in te merchandising of each venue, each star, each historic place. And of course in Tennessee I enjoyed the most going to the Ryman Auditorium vibrating with a blue grass concert (Ricky Skaggs), Loretta Lynn Ranch was neat, I found Elvis Graceland a very inspiring home, Sun and Stax Studios was very touching, Al Green Gospel church was incredibly energetic . . . it was probably the best trip I did.
What's your favorite shirt and where did you find it? I love my Flower print long point collared one from Marni. I won't lie I got in yoox.com haha!
What is your spirit animal? I'm definitely a cat woman.
What did you wear the last time you went out to dinner? I just came back from Galicia so my last dinner as in a classic tavern in a Coruña called Pulperia Melide with my boyfriend, the Sweeneys and Nano4814's family. I was wearing my aquamarine Sies Marjan knit top, a tropical printed silk Loewe skirt and Roger Vivier pumps.
What did you order? We got Polbo á feira Polbo a feira, grilled razor clams, scallops and vinaigrette style mussels.
What is your favorite beverage of choice? Iced tape water for lunch, a glass of Godello wine for dinner, Moscow Mule after dinner.
What song will you never delete from your playlist? I hate hate by Razzy Bailey.
Do you believe in astrology? If so what's your sign and which characteristics are important parts of your personality? I'm a super taurus character!! Independent (I never cried as a baby) really down to earth and also very stubborn.
If you could go somewhere in a time machine, where and when would you travel to? 1974 New York City.
What would you wear on this time machine adventure? A Nudie's Rodeo tailored and personalized outfit.
What are your favorite websites/blogs? Archiving.
If you were a car what would you be? A gold plated Cadillac like Isaac Hayes'.
If you could invite anyone in the world for a coffee who would you invite and why? Bria Vinaite. She seems so fun. Kathleen Hana who I met once after a gig and she was the nicest person. Pussy Riot girls for sure. Poly Styrene if she were still alive.
Fill in the blanks regarding your closet!
The last thing I bought on vacation was a red Y/Projects deconstructed knit jumper when I traveled to New Orleans (I know it doesn't make a lot of sense but I discovered a really good outlet in the city called UAL where I found amazing stuff).
I spend too much money on taxes but save a lot of money on oil.
I would love to style this person Bjork for this publication Vogue Spain.
I wear this fragrance Shalimar but I love smelling this fragrance on someone else La Jardin Sur Le Toit.
