Hello, It’s Ann. It’s great to see you. Can I interview your closet? Certainly.
What’s your favorite T-Shirt? Where and why did you buy it? My favorite t-shirt is undoubtedly a black Rolling Stones “Steel Wheels North American Tour 1989” Concert shirt. My father passed it down to me. Aside from being wonderful on its own, wearing something that was your father’s has a lot of meaning to me, and seems like an important aspect of passing down style from generation to generation.
Are you a sweater person or a sweatshirt person? Sweater person for sure. Love a good cardigan on a crisp fall day.
What did you wear on your last date? On my last date, I wore black jeans, a clean blue oxford, and a blazer. Frye Boots.
How did the date go? What did you do? It was great! I went to my favorite spot in New York, Mud on 9th between 1st and 2nd.
What do you like to drink while getting ready for a night out? I’m a beer guy. Crisp light pilsner, easy. If it’s chilly or I’m looking to change it up, Pinot Noir is the wine for me.
What music do you listen to while getting ready for a night out? Otis Redding. That’s getting ready to go out, going out, coming home from going out. There’s nobody better than Otis Redding.
Where was the last place you traveled to? Atlanta. What a cool town.
What was the most important thing you packed? The most important thing I packed was a faded indigo Parisian work coat. Light enough to wear when its warm, a great layer when it’s cold.
What was the most non-essential thing you shouldn’t have packed but packed anyway? Probably my phone. Some would argue its essential. I think we’d all be better off without them.
What rules if any did you have about getting dressed when you were young? I grew up in a pretty preppy town. While that leads to a backlash, of course, I’ve realized there are plenty of things preps do nicely. Think JFK.
What is the first item of clothing you bought with your own money? A pair of red and white Allen Iverson basketball shoes in 5th grade. I thought I was the man. Then everybody grew.
What is the biggest splurge or investment piece you purchased? Any time I get some money to splurge I ask the guys at RTH Shop in LA to put a bunch of stuff in a box and send it my way. They are the best.
Do you feel the investment has been worthwhile? Yes.
What is your favorite fashion bargain? How much do you wear it? WigWam Socks. I don’t think I’ve ever kept a single pair of socks together for more than three days my whole life.
Who was your style icon as a youngster? My dad was big on JFK. There were always pictures of him around the house.
Who is one of your style icons now? Steve Mcqueen and Paul Newman.
What do you wear when you work out? Nike compression leggings and a loose tank. Maybe a bandana.
What do you wear to the grocery store? Only my finest.
What shoes do you wear when the weather is bad? A weathered shoe is the best shoe. I wear Sabahs whenever I can.
What shoes do you wear when you want to show off? I don’t like to show off, but I love a good pair of boots.
What do you wish you had in your closet but don’t have? A white Members Only jacket my grandfather’s been wearing for 40 years. I don’t think he’s ever given a thought to what makes him look stylish, and for that he’s got wonderful style.
What do you have in your closet that you should throw away but still haven’t? Far too many t-shirts picked up along the way. You always say to yourself “well, there might be that one instance in which I need to wear that thing for that event.”
What’s in your closet that you inherited from another person and still like to wear? My pop’s Rolling Stones tees. He also has a Minnesota Timberwolves jacket that he got in the early nineties I believe. He’s got a great look.
What is the best piece of clothing or accessory that someone else bought for you? A blue and white striped Saint James L’Atelier shirt a friend recently brought back for me from Paris.
What piece(s) of jewelry do you wear everyday? A black RTH love knot necklace.
Do you wear a fragrance? Baxter deodorant does the trick for me.
Thanks for letting me interview your closet Conor. I’m glad I got to know you better too. Now would you mind if I borrowed your Rolling Stone's T-shirt and maybe some leopard print Sabahs? I'm a size 7.5!
